Creating the Piece Parts

There are 2 steps in creating Assessments that teachers can update in the Gradebook:

1. Create Assessments in the Assessment Module.   These will be the “receptacles” for the scores the teachers enter. 
2. Create a Data View that allows teachers to enter scores in their Gradebook

Step 1:  Create the Assessment

If you already have pre-existing Assessments you wish to have teachers enter scores into, skip to Step 2 below.

To create new, empty Assessments for teachers to fill, start on the Assessments>Setup>Assessments screen.

At the bottom of the screen, fill in the fields as shown in the screenshot and then click the Add Assessment button

1. Go to the Assessments -> Setup -> Assessments screen
2. At the bottom of the screen, locate the Add Assessments fields and fill them in.  All fields are required to create a new Assessment:
   
3. Click Add Assessment.  This brings up the "Result Files" screen.  You will not be uploading Result Files:
   
4. Instead of uploading files, you will manually create the Assessment columns, so click on the “Modify” tab.  The “Modify” tab always displays the name of the Assessment :
   
5. The Modify Assessment screen is where the scores to be input by teachers will be defined:

Note that the six core scores (Language Arts, Reading, Writing, Math, Science and Score) are predefined for you in the first six score slots).   Even though they are all in place, this Assessment is a Reading Assessment and we are only interested in the Reading score.   Add additional scores starting with slot 7 – the first “unmapped” slot.    Do not put “unmapped” scores in slots 1 to 6.
7. Locate the “Add Score” fields at the bottom of the existing list:
   
8. To create additional scores, use this control.  For each score, fill in the fields – the minimum information you need is a name for the score and the Type of the score.  In order, the fields are:
9. Click the Add button to add the score:
10. The new field will now appear in the list of scores:
11. Repeat Steps 8 to 10 to add all your “unmapped” additional scores.
12. You can now update the definitions of the fields that will be displayed to the Teachers:
