Stating with the class of 2016, students will be required to demonstrate proficiency in English Language Arts and Mathematics in order to qualify for Graduation.  Proficiency will be determined by achieving the "cut" score from any one of the the following assessments.

ACT, Act Aspire, Accuplacer, ASVAB-AFQT, PARCC, PSAT, or SAT

In order for Genesis to determine if a student has fulfilled the requirement, your district must

1.  Enter student assessment scores into the Genesis Assessment module
2.  Map the state defined assessments to an assessment in Genesis from the Map Test screen under Assessments > Graduation.

NOTE: Assessment Names are case sensitive.  For example, instead of entering Act - enter ACT.

Column Descriptions:

Mapping columns:

• Graduation Requirement Name - Any state defined graduation requirement used for graduation.
• Class of - This rule will be for students in this Class Of
• Subject - The Subject for the Graduation Requirement you are creating
• Required Score - "Cut Score: need to fulfill requirement.

Graduation Pathway Columns:

• Graduation Pathway - This column links this particular requirement rule to an NJSmart Graduation Pathway Indicator.  If a student meets this rule then that student will be maked with this graduation indicator in SID management.

The following columns tell Genesis where it should pull score information for the Graduation Requirement you are setting up

• Assessment Definition Test Name - Test name associated with an assessment you have loaded into Genesis.  The Test names in Genesis are defined when setting up your Assessments under the "Test" field.  You may map multiple "Assessment Definition Test Names" to a single "Graduation Requirement".

Example of where Test Name is found within your Assessment Setup.

• Assessment Definition Exam Code - The Exam filed found within your assessment setup OR student assessment scores loaded into the system.  An asterisk ' * ' should be used to load in any scores for a Test regardless of exam name.  If a blank is used, then only assessment scores without an exam name will be used.

• For Assessment From Month/Year - this indicates that you only want to use assessment scores from assessments equal to or greater the defined Month and Year. Leave blank to use assessments from ANY month and year.

• For Assessment Thru Month/Year - this indicates that you only want to use assessment scores from assessments equal to or less than the defined Month and Year. Leave blank to use assessments from ANY month and year.
• Assessment Definition Score Column - the column the score you are looking for is stored in the Assessment Definition.  You will need to check the mapping in your definition you setup.  See example below.
  
  In the result ab you will see we have mapped LAL to the "Language Arts column", Math to the "Math" column and Reading to "Reading (R)".
  
• The score columns for these scores would be 1, 4 and 7 respectively.

Genesis will use the mapping created on this screen when calculating a students graduation requirements.  The calculation can be run ant any time from the Students Graduation tab.  It is also run nightly from the Core Task, "Graduation Assessments".

Setup Questions and Answers

“How do I create two different cut-scores for an assessment based on the test date as will be needed in the PSAT and future SAT?”

In order to do so, so you will need to set up separate Graduation Assessment Requirements for each cut score and map each based on date.  For this example, lets create a separate Graduation Assessment Requirement for the redesigned PSAT/NMSQT taken in October 2015.

It states that for Reading the cut score should be 40 for test taken prior to October of 2015 but 22 for those taken after.

Based on that you might set up your requirement like this ...

You will see in the first PSAT rule, Genesis will look for a score of 40 or more in any Assessment Definition with a Test Name of "PSAT" but only for assessments up through October of 2015.  The second line tells us to look for 22 but only for assessments taken in or after November 2015.

Note:

In this example we set both "Graduation Requirement Names" to PSAT but you could  have named them differently.  For example "PSAT (thru 10/15)" and "PSAT (after 10/15)".

We are assuming in this example that you only want to look look at assessments with a test name of PSAT.

We are assuming in this example that your Reading scores in the PSAT Assessments are loaded into column 2.
