Study Hall / Lunch Fill
When running Fills for Student Hall/Lunch the computer will allow you to select multiple periods but you must manually keep track of overlapping and duplicate periods.
If, for example, you run a search for a course for ALL periods the computer will return to you a list of the number of student schedules that have a hole for the criteria you entered. The results will show a list where each line item shows a period with the number of student schedules that have a hole for that period.
What you must be aware of is each period result is MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE of any of the other line items.
So if you see that 10 students have a hole for lunch for period 3, and 10 students have a hole for lunch for period 4, THESE MIGHT BE THE SAME 10 STUDENTS. If you chose to schedule both periods in the same transaction (meaning you do not perform another search) you may be scheduling those 10 Students to two lunches.
Along the same line, if you see 10 Students with a hole in period 1 and 10 Student with a hole in period 1-2 you need to keep in mind these may be the same students in each list. So if you chose to schedule both periods in one transaction you may be scheduling a conflict into the students schedules.
The proper procedure for Fills should be this.
NEVER schedule multiple periods in a single transaction for periods that conflict with one another.
NEVER schedule multiple periods for a LUNCH fill if you do not want a student to have multiple LUNCHES. You must perform a second search/transaction. When you perform a search for a Course that is marked as a Lunch, all students with a lunch in their schedule will be automatically eliminated from the search results.
NOTE: The Fills tool only creates new sections of Lunch or Study Hall. It does not have the ability to find students and add to an existing section of Lunch or Study Hall.
NOTE: The Fills tool only includes students with courses already on their schedule. For example, students with no scheduled courses will not be included in the Fills.
