Overview
This article serves as a guide to the Update Selected User Fields tool, located in Genesis under Setup > Security > Users > Tools which allows certain fields to be mass updated on the Genesis accounts.
The users who will be updated are enabled users that have the selected role assigned.
Note: Only users with the 'sysadmin' role are allowed to work with this tool
Note: When running this tool, be sure you are not changing your own account, as your Genesis account could be assigned to the role you are working with. For this reason, "Do NOT update users with sysadmin role" is checked off by default.
How to run the Update Selected User Fields tool
1. Check off the data field that you would like the tool to set. It is recommended you only select one data field at a time.
2. For the data field selected, fill in the value in which you would like to update the users to. For example, if you check off "Homeroom" which is a checkbox field on the user, setting the dropdown to "Yes" means that it will check off this box for all users updated by the tool. Setting the dropdown to "No" means that the tool will UN-check this field.
3. Select the users you wish to update. Select the appropriate role (ex: 'counselors') in the field Update users that have this role. The tool will update all users found within that role, so you may want to verify the users are correct first, by opening the role within Setup > Security > Roles
4. Would you like to apply these changes to users with the 'sysadmin' role as well (not recommended)? To prevent the same changes from being placed onto sysadmin users, leave the box checked Do NOT update users with sysadmin role which is checked off by default.
5. When ready, click Mass update selected fields on enabled users.
6. Search at least one user to verify the changes were made successfully.
