Broadcast Message

A message can be set that every user logged into Genesis will see. This feature is very useful for letting currently logged in users aware of a pending system shutdown.

This is the highlighted message that displays on every screen - displaying as a yellow bar below the modules.

NOTE: This has moved from the Setup>Security>Policy screen to the Setup>Districts>System Messages screen.

Setting the message:

  1. Navigate to the Setup>Districts>System Messages screen.
  2. Set the "Message" field to the desired message. HTML can be used in this message. The limit is 255 characters.
    1. If no message exists, click "Create Message." (Or, if you want to create additional messages, click "Create Message" to add new ones.)
    2. If you want it to appear as the "Header" (the yellow bar on the top of ALL screens) - check off "Header."
    3. If you want it to appear as a "pop up" when users log in to Genesis for the first time, check off "Logon." The message will also be available for the user at any time by clicking on the icon next to the top school dropdown.
    4. If you want this message to be for GENESIS screens, select "Genesis" in the Location column.  If you want the message to be for PARENT screens, select "Parents" in the Location column.
    5. If you want to specify a specific ROLE to see this message, select it in the Role column. Otherwise, leave it as "ALL" to make sure all users see it.
    6. If you want to specify a specific SCHOOL to see this message, check it/uncheck in the "Schools" area.
    7. If you want to make sure the message TURNS OFF as of a specific date, enter a value in the "Until" field in the Display Dates column. Otherwise, leave the field blank.

Removing the message:

  1. Navigate to the Setup>Districts>System Messages screen.
  2. Clear the text that is in the "Message" field.
  3. There is also a trash can option so you can delete out the message entirely.
  4. You can also add an end date if you enter a date in the "Until" field in the Display Dates column.
  5. We also have a "Delete Inactive Messages" option to clear out any expired messages all at once.
