Overview
You can run/analyze the official NJ ASSA report via Attendance > ASSA tab in Genesis.
The report is 'collected' by running Collect Oct 15th Data on the Attendance > ASSA > Collect Data tab.
This will generate the report's totals, which can be viewed on the Attendance > ASSA > Analyze Data tab.
To print out ASSA info, go to Attendance > ASSA > Analyze Data and locate the "Print All" and "Print Audit" radio buttons. With one of those checked, you can then click on the printer icon in the top right to print out this info. "Print Audit" will include the individual student records that make up the total.
NJ ASSA Screen Options
Based on NJ Guidelines above, configure the two options below based on how your district determines low income:
- 1. Calculate ASSA low income counts using [current year] Lunch-Application/Lunch-Tracking records with a determination/start date of (10/15/20XX) or earlier
- 2. Allow ASSA to calculate low income counts using [current year] Carry-Over records - the dropdown has 2 options:
- Allow ASSA to use Carry-Over Lunch Records
- OR... Do not use Carry-Over records when calculating low income
- Allow Direct Cert lunch carry-over records to be included in free/reduced counts. (not recommended)
- Check this if to include Students with active Alternate Education Program Tracking records in the ALTERNATE program. = This option will cause students with an Alternate Education tracking record to appear under the ALTERNATIVE program within the Analyze Data screen.

Information on Reporting F/R Lunch
Students who qualify for free lunch under the New Jersey
Expanded Income Eligibility Guidelines pursuant to the Working Class Families’
Anti-Hunger Act (families with an annual household income between 186 and 224
percent of the federal poverty level) are not low income on the ASSA.
From the official NJ ASSA FAQ: "A school district can certify its ASSA Low Income count supported by carryover applications and current year applications received as of the count date. Alternatively, a school district can update its free/reduced counts through the date of its final ASSA certification. If the district chooses to update its low income free/reduced counts through the date of final certification using the current year applications for those students, then no carryover applications can be included. Regardless of which option is selected, the final ASSA submission must reflect only students that were counted as "on-roll" on the count date." |
Running a Custom Collection
The Run Custom Collection button allows you to collect the same ASSA totals for a different date during the school year, other than Oct 15th. This is not for ASSA reporting, but for the purpose of comparing totals between dates.
To run the ASSA report for a different date, visit Attendance > ASSA > Collect Data and click Run Custom Collection.
A pop-up box will appear, allowing you to enter the alternate report date (mm/dd/yyyy).
Click the run button after entering the custom date.
Once it is finished, you will now have a NEW choice in the Collection option box, when viewing the data via Attendance > ASSA > Analyze Data
For example, running a custom collection of "12/01/2024" will result in a choice between the regular "Oct 15th Collection" and "12012024" as follows:
