Infraction Code List Screen
The Infraction Code list screen (Code of Conduct>Setup>Conduct Codes>Infraction Codes) displays all infraction codes in all groups:
- The MISCONDUCT group is the only group that can be altered. All other groups are defined by the State of NJ and cannot be altered.
- All Infraction Codes can now be categorized.

Adding New Misconduct Codes
Figure 2 - Define a new Misconduct Code
Procedure to Add an Infraction Code
- Go to the Conduct>Setup>Conduct Codes>Infraction Codes screen.
- Locate the "Add" button at the bottom of the screen and click it. This brings up the Create Infraction Code form.
- Fill in the form:
- Infraction Code – This must be a short unique identifier for the new infraction code. Maximum 8 characters in length, letters, numbers and the underline (_) character are legal. Spaces and special characters are not allowed.
- Infraction Description - This is the free text description of the new infraction code.
- Seq – The sequence number places this new code into the list of infraction codes: codes are sorted only by their Seq numbers, not alphabetically.
- School Type - If this code is to be used at only one level (e.g. in high school, or in elementary schools, etc.) select the type here. To allow the code to be available in all schools leave this field blank.
- Category – Used to further categorize incidents, allowing infractions with a specific Type/Set to be looked up in Conduct>Incidents. Create/Manage Categories on the Setup>Codes screen, under Infraction Types table. Districts can invent their own category codes and list them there. Category is optional, not required for adding an infraction. Does not impact state reporting.
- Used in State Reporting – This code can be flagged if it is to be used for state reporting.
- For Teachers – Show this infraction on the Gradebook>Gradebook>Student>Discipline screen. Teachers cannot see or utilize this code when this is unchecked.
- Active Code – Codes can be disabled. By default all codes are active. You can disable a code if you no longer wish to be able select it for new infractions.
- Include in Auto Point Removal – Infractions can be exempted from point removal. If this is set to Yes, the default, it will be included in automatic point removal. When it is set to No, the code is exempted from automatic point removal.
- Default Infraction for Auto Point Removal – This is the infraction used as the reason for the "point removal" incidents.
- First Infraction Points - # of points assessed for a first infraction.
- Second Infraction Points- # of points assessed the second time a student incurs this infraction.
- Third Infraction Points - # of points assessed the third time – and all additional times -a student incurs this infraction.
- Click Save to create the infraction

De-activating vs. Deleting Infraction Codes
Infraction Codes should not be deleted:
- Once a code has been used it is always in the database: removing it breaks the link.
- Codes you no longer use should be deactivated instead of being deleted.
Figure 4 – Deactivate a Misconduct Code
Procedure to De-activate an Infraction Code
- Go to the Conduct>Setup>Conduct Codes>Infraction Codes screen.
- Locate the code you wish to modify and click the "edit" icon for it. This brings up the Modify Code screen.
- Locate the Active Code field – uncheck it to set it to NO. This deactivates the code without removing it. It will not appear on the list of codes that can be added to new Incidents.
