Releasing Students - Step 3 in Reunification

Modified on Thu, Apr 20, 2023 at 12:59 PM

What Happens During Student Release?

  • When a student's status is changed to "Sent to Checkout" they appear on the Student Release screen.
    • The student or students have arrived at the "Pre-Release Location".    Staff members at the "Pre-Release" location should also be monitoring the Student Holding screen and can update the students' status via that screen.
    • The parent or guardian is sent to the "Release/Hand-off Location".   This means that district personnel have verified that the parent or guardian has a right to pick up the student or students.

Who Watches the Release Student Screen

The Student Holding screen (Reunification→Release Student) is used by staff members at the Release / Hand-Off location to transfer a student to their parent/guardian.

Students who are physically present in the "Pre-Release" area - which is presumably immediately adjacent to the actual Release/Hand-Off location - are the only ones who should appear on the Student Release screen and be ready to be handed off to the parent/guardian.

General student status can be found on the Tracking screen (Reunification→Release Student).

The Release Student Screen

This screen auto-updates every 30 seconds.   It lists all students who are have been "sent to checkout".

If the needed student has not yet "arrived" on the Release Students screen,

Releasing Students

Students can be released as long as they are marked "Approved for Release", which means that a parent or guardian is waiting for them.

The Release Students screen has two filters:

  1. The default filter is "Only students "Sent to Checkout" - This shows only students who have been formally 'Sent to Checkout' from the Student Holding screen.
  2. A second filter is "All students 'Approved for Release'" - This shows all students with a status of either "Approved for Release" OR "Sent to Checkout".   This allows the student to be handed off to their parent/guardian as soon as they arrive at the Pre-Release / Release / Hand-Off area without waiting for their status to be formally updated to "Sent to Checkout".

Default "Only student 'Sent to Checkout'"

"All students 'Approved for Release'"

Signing a Student Out

As long as a student appears on the "Release Student" screen - using either filter - they can be signed out to their parent or guardian.

  1. In the presence of the parent or guardian, the button should be clicked. This brings up the signout dialog:
  2. The parent/guardian uses their finger, a stylus or the cursor to sign the card:
The  button can be used to clear the signature field and try again.
  3. To formally release the student, click the button. A confirmation dialog is then displayed:
  4. Click OK to release the student and finish their reunification.
  5. The student's record is now removed from the Release Students screen as well as the Student Holding screen.
