Parent Portal Settings

Overview

The Parent Access>Setup>Settings screens allow you to configure options for the Parents Module. This is a list of options and how they affect Genesis.

District Settings


District-wide settings can be found via Parent Access>Setup>Settings>District Settings>General Settings.

Field

Description

Parents module is currently available for

If this is set to "No One", then the parents will be presented with a screen displaying the text from field below.
If set to "All Parent Users," every active logon ID can log in.
If set to "Administrative Parent Users," then only logon IDs with "Admin Account" checked off will be able to log in to the portal. With this option, the Parent Module can be configured and new features can be tested without enabling the module for everyone.
If set to "No Student Accounts," then it will lock out any account with the User Type of 'Student'.

Message to display when the module is inactive

If the module is Inactive, then this is the message to be displayed to the parents.

Message to display when the module is not available for students


Login page automatically re-types logonid in lower case

Only use this option if all parent logonids are in ALL lower case

Auto log out in seconds

This setting is managed on the Setup>Security>Policy screen.

Allow accounts to set up 2-Factor Password Authentication

Setting this option to "No" will remove the option for parents to enable 2-Factor Authentication on their parent portal account. This will also remove any 2-Factor Password Authentications that have already been set up for parent portal accounts. If this setting is set to "Yes", 2-Factor Password Authentication can be set up by parents inside their parent portal account.

Display Students' Barcode on Student Summary screen

There is a "Display Students' Barcode on Student Summary screen" field, a "Barcode Font" field, and a "Barcode Type" field located on the Parent Access>Setup>Settings>District Settings tab. When this option is on, a barcode icon will be displayed on the Student Summary screen inside the parent portal. When the barcode icon is clicked, a barcode for the student will be generated.

Barcode Font

Allows you set what barcode font to use

Barcode Type

Allows you to select either the Student ID or User Text when generating the barcodes.

Parent Administrator Email Address

This is the Email Address that All email from the Parent Module will come from.

Display a 'Forgot Password' link on the Parents logon page

If this is displayed, then the default password template will be used for the email sent to the parent.

Display a 'Forgot Password' link on the Student logon page

If this is checked, then the default password template will be used for the email sent to the student.

Validate that Logon ID is an Email Address

This tells Genesis whether to allow Logon ID's that are not email addresses. Be very careful with this option, email functionality in the Parents Module will not work without all logon's being email addresses.

Allow access to parent portal if fine due dates have not passed

If Parent Portal pages are locked until a fee is payed, this option will allow parents to still view the page until the due date has been passed.

Help Desk Name

This is the name of the person or office that handles the Parents Help Desk. This value only appears on the log in screen.

Phone Number

This is the phone number that you want parents to call if they have problems. This value only appears on the log in screen.

Email

This is the email that you want parents to use if they have problems. This value only appears on the log in screen.

Website URL

This is a website that can be filled in that appears on the log in screen.

Parent Logon Screen Message (HTML Supported)

This is a message that appears above the contact information for your help desk. This value only appears on the log in screen.

Student Logon Screen Message (HTML Supported)

Same as above but for the Student Portal.

Parent Logout Screen Message (HTML Supported)

This is a message that appears on screen after users log out.

Parent Screen Disclaimer (HTML Supported)

This is a message that appears on ALL parent module screens.

Enable Parents to switch to new Parent Portal

This will allow parents to switch to the new mobile friendly Parent Portal. The functionality is identical to the current portal, the only changes are to the look and feel. This is enabled by parents in their settings page.

Automatically have all Parent accounts start with the new portal screens


School Settings

The School Settings available to configure via Parent Access>Setup>Settings>School Settings include Report Cards, Grading, and Scheduling and others.

You should review the tabs at the start of the school year to ensure you are sharing only the info you want to share with parents.

Online Parent Lunch Applications

Genesis allows districts to enable an electronic Lunch Application that may be filled out by parents when logging into their Parent Module account.


Submitted applications appear in the Genesis Lunch Application tab where they can be viewed and processed by staff.


Parents can view the status of their application at any time by logging into the Genesis Parent Portal account.


You can set this up via Parent Access>Setup>Settings>District Settings>Lunch Application Settings.
