CDS County, District, School Codes

This article explains how to maintain the district's list of state County, District, and School codes.

Your district can have Genesis automatically import new CDS codes from the state simply by enabling the "CDS/OPE ID Import" on the Core > Scheduler screen. This task will run every day to import the latest CDS and OPEID codes. Read here for more info: CDS Import Task

Overview

A CDS Code is a 9 digit code representing the County Code (CCC), District Code (DDDD), and School Code (SSS) for each school in NJ.

You must fill in the CSD for each school you set up in Genesis. This is done by populating the State County Code, State District Code, and State School Code from Setup > Schools > Modify School.

Missing your CDS codes from these dropdown lists?

The State of NJ assigns schools their CDS codes. If you are not sure of what your schools code is, first check the state's CDS spreadsheet online at https://www.nj.gov/education/sleds/keydocs/docs/County_District_School_Code_List.xlsx. If you do not see your school listed in the spreadsheet then you must contact the NJDOE or NJSLEDS Support.

If the state has not supplied you with a code, you must use 000 - Unknown until one is issued. Once the State has issued you a valid code, you may add it to the Setup > State Schools tab in Genesis.

Automatically Import NEW State CDS Codes

Genesis can maintain the list of CDS codes for your district automatically. To do this, simply enable the CDS Import Task to have Genesis import codes directly from the state. See CDS/OPE Import Task for more information. 

Manually adding CDS Codes

First, ensure that the County is already listed in Genesis. Then check to see if the district has already been added to that county. The new 3-digit SCHOOL code cannot be added before the COUNTY and DISTRICT codes are in place.

To add a new COUNTY Code:

• Visit Setup > Codes screen and look for County_Codes in the list. Click into this table to see and make modifications to the list of Counties available for the district. Be sure that your new county code is only 2 digits in length.

To add a new DISTRICT Code:

• Visit Setup > State Schools > Districts tab first.  Then switch to the County you are adding the new district code to. Be sure to check whether your district code was already added to the list. If it is, then skip to the next step. To add a new code, type the code into the State District Code field and the name of the district into the District Name field. Then click Add State District to finish. Be sure that your new district code is 4 digits in length.

To add a new SCHOOL Code:

• Visit Setup > State Schools > Schools tab first. Then switch to the County you are adding the school to, followed by selecting the district to add the school to.  If your school is not listed, it can be added by first typing the code of the school into the School Code text field, and then the title of the school in the School Name field. Then click Add State School to finish. Be sure that your school code is 3 digits in length.
