Overview
This document describes the various tabs and functions on the Next Year Requests screen within the student record. Genesis will attempt to schedule students into all of their requested courses at the time the Student Scheduler tool is run from the Next Year Scheduling module. Please Note: In order to receive course requests, students must be assigned a Next School and Next Grade Level. The school's requests must also be enabled. See the following for more information:
Summary Tab
The Student Data>Modify Student>Next Year Requests>Summary tab gives you a summary of what the student has scheduled and/or requested so far.

If courses appear in yellow in the "Requested Classes" area, that indicates that student has completed and passed the course or is currently taking the course.
Graduation Requirements and Academic History can also be found on this screen.
Current Requests Tab
The Student Data>Modify Student>Next Year Requests>Current Requests screen allows you to view/add/delete course requests for a student.
You can see what a student's next school and next grade on this screen.
Those fields are what course requests are based on - so if it looks incorrect, change the Next School and Next Grade values on Student Data>Modify Student>Demographics>Required screen.
You can add a request on this screen using the "Add Course" field. Enter a value and click ADD. Format: Course/Section with a comma or asterisk separating courses ( Ex.1001,101/1)
You can delete requests on this screen if you click the checkbox to the left of the course and click the trash can.
Information on this screen can also be exported as a PDF by clicking the printer icon in the top right hand corner of the screen.
You also have this option to toggle on and off before printing: "Show Disclaimer (from Parent Module school setup) on Request Print Out." That disclaimer is set up via Parent Access>Setup>Settings>School Settings>Scheduling in the "Disclaimer on Request Print Out" fields.
You can also "lock" requests for the student. You would first check off the course(s) that should be locked by clicking the padlock next to those courses. Then click the padlock showing at bottom next to trashcan to 'save' the locked courses. Locked requests cannot be dropped from any of the student next year request screens.
There are 2 options on the Setup>Districts>Basic Params tab - Allow Student Schedules to be Locked and Allow Student Requests to be Locked.
If you want the option to lock requests on this screen, check off Allow Student Requests to be Locked.
History Tab
You can view a student's academic history via Student Data>Modify Student>Next Year Requests>History.
You can sort this screen as By School Year, Subject or By Subject, School Year.
This can be exported as a PDF or an excel file by clicking the icons in the top right hand corner of the screen. ![]()
Grad. Requirements Tab
You can view Credits Required, Credits Earned, Credits Needed, In Schedule, and Requested course information for a student via Student Data>Modify Student>Next Year Requests>Grad Requirements.
This info can be exported as a PDF by clicking the printer icon in the top right hand corner of the screen ![]()
Make Request Tab
You can view, modify, delete, and quick add course requests for a student via Student Data>Modify Student>Next Year Requests>Make Request.

To delete a course request, check off the course on the left, and click the trash can.
To add a request, enter the course ID or search for the course and double click it (which will add it to the field on the left) and click ADD. Then, click "Add as a Request" to add it as an actual course request.
Alternate Course Requests
If a student is unable to be scheduled into one of the courses requested, the system can attempt to schedule them into an Alternate Course. This occurs when running the Student Scheduler tool with the option to Schedule Alternate Requests. Start by typing the name of the course in the Alt Course field next to the course request that should have an alternate. The screen will present you with possible matches. Click on the correct course so that it fills the text field, then click SAVE Requests.
In addition, the school can enable the ability to input multiple alternate courses per course request. This is enabled in Setup > Schools > Modify School > Scheduling options screen by checking off the setting: Allow adding of multiple Alternate Requests on Student Make Request Screen. This enables Plus Sign icons in the Alt Course/Sec column for displaying the additional (2nd) alternate field.

In the example above, the student's primary request for English 4 is 5 credits. The school added two separate 2.5 credit courses as alternates. If the student scheduler cannot place the student in the 5-credit course being requested, it will then attempt to place them in both of the 2.5 credit courses.
Teacher Recommendations
The Teacher Recommendations section of the screen displays ALL course recommendations this student has received by their teachers. An icon will indicate the recommendation has been converted into a course request, which is needed in order to schedule the student. Teacher Recommendations by themselves do not cause the student to be scheduled, unless they are 'converted' into a course request. See this article for more information: Teacher Recommendations
Counselor Recommendations
You can also add it as a "Counselor Recommendation" which is not an actual request, but will place it in sort of a holding area so you can have a record of it. It can be converted into a request, and converted back into a counselor recommendation if the course shouldn't be scheduled. If there are courses in the Counselor/Student Request queue, they are not requests but if you click the
icon, it will make it an actual request. If you then drop it using the trash can, it will still remain in the Counselor/Student Request queue.
Parent Portal Course Requests
If requests have been made by the parent or student directly via the Parent/Student Portal, you can also convert them to actual requests on this screen. They will appear in the "Requests from Parents Module" area, in green. See the following articles for more information:
Parent Request Settings
There is a new "Override" column on the Make Requests subtab as well. This course is being requested by the student and is overriding the recommendation of the teacher.
Multiple Requests Tab
You can add multiple course requests for a student via Student Data>Modify Student>Next Year Requests>Multiple Requests.
This is another screen that allows requests to be added. The intention of this screen is to allow searching for possible courses to request, using additional Curriculum fields, such as Credits, Course Level, and Subject Area for example. Similar to how the Curriculum Search screen operates.
Search for courses and once you get results, check the course off on the left, and click "Add Class Requests."
The course(s) added will then be added to the list of Next Year Requests for this student.
