The Red Cross 'Need to Know' Icon

What is the Red Cross Icon For?

The Red Cross icon is designed to enable the nurse to communicate "need to know" information about the student to teachers and administrators of the school/district.

It should be turned on when the nurse wants to inform the student's teachers and school administrators about a medical issue with respect to the child which they need to be aware of.

This is not a "nurse only" indicator:  its intent is communication between the nurse and the school community.

How is the Red Cross Icon Controlled?

The Red Cross Icon is turned on for a student when condition code which controls the icon is assigned to the student.

The nurse uses specially configured "Condition Codes" on students' Health Record screen (Student Data→Student→Medical→Health Record) to turn the icon on.

The Condition Codes are optionally configured to control the Red Cross icon.

When a student is given a condition code that turns on the icon, the icon becomes visible on the student's information bar.

Tool Tip text for the icon is also controlled by the nurse.

How is the Tool Tip Text Displayed by the Red Cross Icon Controlled?

The Tool Tip text for the icon is controlled by the "Text for Medical Icon" field, also on the student's Health Record screen.

Whatever the nurse places in that field on the student's Health Record screen is displayed when anyone (with permission) places their cursor over the Red Cross Icon.
