Lesson Book Preferences

The Lesson Book Preferences screen allows you to control the overall setup for your Lesson Book and the way it appears on your Lesson Planner Calendar. Some of these settings can also be set from the List Books screen

The Preferences

Is this lesson book tied to one of your courses?

This determines the course that your Lesson Book is tied to. Which can link it to any curriculum mapped Lesson Plans that admins may have setup already

This link is already setup for Lesson Books that were automatically created. Lesson Books get auto created for courses that teachers have on their schedule

If you manually created the Lesson Book, it is not going to be automatically tied to one of your courses.

  • Manually created Lesson Books may only be tied to courses if those courses are NOT already tied to Lesson Books

Is this lesson book tied to a Gradebook?

This determines which Gradebook the Lesson Book is tied to. Which allows you to create and push assignments from your Lesson Plans back to the Gradebook

This link is already setup for Lesson Books that were automatically created. Lesson Books get auto created for courses that teachers have on their schedule

If you manually created the Lesson Book, it is not going to be automatically tied to one of your Gradebooks

  • Lesson Books can only be tied to Gradebooks if they are already tied to a course

What is the default set of standards to use for this class?

It is possible to set the default Standards Set and Standards Subject to use when searching for Standards for Lesson Plans and Unit Plans that are part of this Lesson Book.

Select the Set, then click Save. Only after you click Save can you search for the individual Subject.

Check to make this lesson book private

If a Lesson Book is "private" it cannot be seen or searched by your Lesson Pals.

  • When it is set to "private" this Preference overrides the "Sharable" field on each Lesson Plan within the Lesson Book
  • Meaning that when a Lesson Book is marked as Private, none of the Lesson Plans or Unit Plans it contains can be seen by your Lesson Pals, regardless of the "Sharable" flag on each Lesson Plan and Unit Plan.

Show lesson book on Calendar Screen?

This allows the Lesson Book to show up on the Lesson Planner Calendar screen.

To hide the book, uncheck the checkbox.  To show the Lesson Book on the Calendar, check the checkbox.

Lesson Books that were auto created for you are defaulted to show up on the Calendar

Select a lesson plan template

Each Lesson Book has one and only one Lesson Plan Template at any time. This is normally set to the school's default, but can be changed if other Templates are available in your school

You may update this Template at any time, but ALL Lesson Plans in this Lesson Book are affected

  • You cannot lose data by selecting a new Template - but you might hide fields that contain data you wanted to show
  • To fix that and access that hidden data, simply return here and choose the Template you were previously using

Sequence

This is the sort order number for your Lesson Book when your Lesson Planner Preferences are set to use "Sequence" numbers to order Lesson Books

When sorting by Sequence number this affects the order in which your Lesson Books appear on the Lesson Planner Calendar and on a few other Lesson Book screens

Sequence numbers sort in Ascending order - ie: 1 is before 2, 10 is before 20, etc.

Background

This controls the color of the Lesson Book on the Calendar screen and on printouts.

Is this lesson book part of a specific department?

This associates the Lesson Book with a department so that it will appear as linked with that Department for Reviewers.

If the Lesson Book is linked to a course, and that course is linked to a Department, the Lesson Book will automatically be set to that course's Department

Manually created Lesson Books that are not linked to a course can be linked to any Department.

Grade Levels for Lesson Book

You can optionally specify the Grade Levels that this Lesson Book is taught to

The Grade Levels you check off here will automatically be selected when searching for Standards in the Lesson Book

Default Start Time for Your Plans

You can optionally set a default time for all your Lesson Plans created in this Lesson Book

Using time on Lesson Plans is so you can optionally sort your Lesson Plans by the time they are taught on the Lesson Planner Calendar instead of having them being grouped by the Lesson Book they are in
